Summer Goodbyes

Updated: Jun 7, 2019

The wind scattered our voices

among the blooms of summer.

The falling leaves on our heads and the smell

of dry asphalt announced a parting.

We walked in silence

side by side

echoes on the pavement.

I wanted more sounds, more words, and more touch.

But you were like the leaves being blown away

by the wind

slowly fading

and flying away from me

as they bid their inevitable goodbyes.
